Our sustainability approach

We are driven by our commitment to a sustainable future and the efficient use of water is one of our top priorities. From aerators to eco-friendly cartridges, we develop innovative water-saving features to help you save water while not compromising on design.

We are part of a number of voluntary commitments such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We serve on the management boards of international platforms such as the European Federation of Ceramic Sanitaryware Producers (FECS), the European Ceramic Industry Association (Cerameunie) and the Bathroom Manufacturers Association (BMA). Eczacıbaşı Building Products remains a leader in sustainability as a member of the Turkish Ceramics Federation (SERFED) and the Association of Turkish Construction Material Producers (İMSAD).

Design Approach

By choosing a VitrA product, you are contributing to saving the world’s natural resources. We develop products that promote power and resource conservation at the end-user level driven by a commitment to our collective future. For example, we manufacture brassware with an adjustable pin that can be set to limit the amount of water released, creating savings of up to 60%. Our eco-led approach has been recognised by globally renowned awards such as iF Design, Plus X Design and Good Design.

Production Approach

The Eczacıbaşı Building Products manufacturing plants are equipped with specifically designed recycling systems to reduce raw material and energy consumption. In 2017 we implemented new technology designed to recover and re-use water, and today VitrA uses 35% less. Temperatures in our ceramic kilns have also been lowered, reducing energy consumption by 15%. These new technologies have won awards from organisations such as the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), Kocaeli Chamber of Industry (KSO) and the Turkish Green Building Council (ÇEDBİK), and the European Business Awards.

Management Approach

We see the topic of sustainability as a way of integrating people, business and technology around a core value. We provide training to our employees on water and energy, and place emphasis on our partner organisations’ approach to these concepts.

WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) approved products have been approved as compliant with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Scottish Byelaws. All WRAS approved products undergo rigorous mechanical and water quality testing that ensures the product will keep water supply clean and free from contamination.
